Why ADSL?
The ADSL modems use a digital coding technique that does not interfere with the conventional voice applications. They operate in an asymetrical mode, the downstream speed being eight times bigger than the upload speed.
ADSL Advantages:

High access speed: 8Mb download, 1Mb upload.

Can be installed on a single pair of copper wires (one line - 2 wires).

ADSL is "rate-adaptive", the speed depending on the distance and line characteristics. It will decrease if the line's parameters (noise, impedance etc) rquire so.

Guaranteed Bandwith - the network topology allows for a minimum bandwith to be supplied for either Internet or VPN access, independent of the network's load.

Service Integration : several services, such as Internet, VoIP, Videoconference, conventional telephony can be integrated on a single connection, thus significantly reducing a company's operating costs.

VPN - it is possible to develop metropolitan or national Virtual Private Networks. The companies that operate several POPs (Points Of Presence) can establish fast and secure connections between these remote locations.

Unlike the CATV or Ethernet based networks, ADSL allows for the subscribers' logical separation..
